Studio Art Class with Lorie Longhany

Come join us for a 3 hour acrylic landscape session. You will have an opportunity to  learn about composition, perspective, color, value, focal points, creating depth and  atmosphere with techniques in foreground, middle ground and background.  

All supplies, including canvas boards, brushes and paints will be included in the cost  of the class. Samples of royalty free landscape photographs will be provided for  personal reference choices. 

   Lorie is a self taught artist, who has 30 years experience teaching art at both private and group art classes and 10 years experience teaching art at St. Mary’s and Holy Family School’s. She works in acrylic, pen and ink, water color, gouache, and  pastels.

   Lorie has been especially enjoying working with acrylics and looks forward to sharing ideas and techniques. These are samples of recent acrylic landscape paintings she has completed.

Learn the Basics of Dot Mandala Painting

Learn the basics of Dot Mandala Painting  Saturday May 18th from 2 – 5pm. The instructor is Mia Barone of DotsAMia. 

Mia is a self taught Dot Mandala Artist who wants to share her beautiful art form with others. She has painted over 100 dot mandala pieces on a variety of materials, participated in several craft shows and runs her own Etsy shop.

Tickets are $24 per person.  Dotting tools (5 styluses and 8 acrylic dowels), palettes, paint, media to paint on and black practice paper will be supplied.  Dotting kits will be available for purchase.

This class is for ages 12 and up.  Pre-registration is required and there must be a minimum of 5 participants to hold the class and there is a maximum of 12 spots in the class.

GO ART! is offering a Ukrainian Egg Decorating, or pysanky, with master pysankar artist, Irene Grassman, as part of our Explore Art! program. The classes will be held on Saturday, June 8th from 10 am to 1 pm at the Hoag Library, 134 Main St, Albion. Open to participants age 12 and older.Ukrainian Cost is $36/person, total, and all materials and tools will be provided. Registration is requested by June 3rd.
 
Irene Czolacz Grassmann was born in Germany in a displaced persons camp and came to America with her parents in 1952. While quickly adapting and embracing the customs of their new homeland, Irene’s parents continued to observe and instill their beautiful Ukrainian culture and heritage in their children. From an early age Irene was interested in various Ukrainian arts including embroidery and ceramics, but fell in love with the art of writing Pysanky (decorated eggs) continues to this day. She has taught history and the process of the Pysanka through BOCES-Continuing Education Programs; the Castellani Art Museum at Niagara University; various cultural festivals in Buffalo, Kerhonkson, and Rochester, as well as teaching the Art of Pysanky at a Ukrainian American Youth Association Arts and Crafts Camp in Ellenville, NY in the Catskills for 17 years.
 
Participants will learn about traditional motifs, symbols, designs and colors, many of which are used to wish good luck and prosperity to the receiver of the egg. The word Pysanka is derived from the Ukrainian word, “pysaty” which means to write—which is how artists describe the process of creating their beautiful and intricate designs.

Learn How to Audition with Maryanne Arena at GO ART!

 

GCC Director of Fine and Performing Arts, Maryanne Arena is hosting an Saturdays in April from 11am – 1pm.   Classes will include: Picking appropriate material, contrasting monologues, cold readings, improv). Nail that next audition by working with Maryanne and learning the essentials!  The class will cost $180 for the 4 week session but the knowledge you will come away with will serve participants for years to come. Professor Bio: Maryanne Arena is a professional entertainer who has taught acting and other theatre subjects for over 30 years. She has been the Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Genesee Community College for twenty years. Maryanne holds an M.F.A from Brooklyn College where she was mentored by Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham, and has studied with some of the world’s greatest professionals. Maryanne has won the prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Award twice. She is a published author and has won awards for her acting and directing. She is a judge for the KCACTF

organization and has participated in and conducted workshops for The Theatre Association of NYS. She is a voting member of the Screen Actors Guild, and before embarking on a teaching career, she was a professional actor, singer, dancer, choreographer, and director. Maryanne was a resident member of the LORT Company P.A Stage and performed many leads in professional summer stock. Her students are currently performing on Broadway, nightclubs, children’s theatre touring, cruise ships, television and movies. She knows what it takes to successfully nail that audition for any

venue (conservatory auditions, Broadway, touring, improv, and community theatre).

Sewing Classes

Have you always wanted to learn to sew or hone your sewing skills?  Now is the time.  

On Friday October 20th from 6-7:30pm you will be running a sewing class where you will learn how to make a couch pillow.  In this hands on learning experience you will have access to a local sewing expert, your own sewing machine, your choice of fabric for your pillow and the batting needed to fill it.  Not only will you be able to take home the sewing knowledge you acquire but your pillow as well!  

You can sign up for one class or both but they are sure to be a fun learning experience! 

Poetry and Prose Club

Starting Thursday September 28th from 6-7pm at GO ART! come and learn some of the basics of creative writing and participate in some fun creative writing activities (blackout poetry, object poetry, short stories and more)  to get your creativity flowing or you can just come and network with other creative writers.

Dates: Thursday March 28th, Thursday April 25th, Thursday May 23rd, and June 27th  

There is no cost to participate in this program.  Please bring a notebook with you (or a computer) to keep your work on.
