The Arts Council for Wyoming County is seeking work to consider for the Fiber Flurry Fiber Arts Festival companion gallery Exhibit, “Rooted: Buried Treasures,” opening on March 28 and running through the annual Fiber Flurry Fiber Arts Festival at the headquarters’ main gallery space in Warsaw County. This component of Fiber Flurry is in its second year and is juried by Tami Fuller, Curator and Exhibiting Member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, Buffalo Weaver’s Guild and the Weaver’s Guild of Rochester. Fuller is the Chair of Exhibitions for the Buffalo Society of Artists, Executive Director of the Roycrofters at Large and Founder and Lead Teacher at Blubird Studio, providing fiber art education across New York State and the Northeast United States.
The theme of the 2025 Fiber Flurry Fiber art gallery exhibition is “Rooted: Buried Treasures,” curated around the Arts Council for Wyoming County’s 2025 theme of “Treasures.”
Exhibition Awards and Monetary Prizes will be awarded. Judging and Awards for “Rooted: Buried Treasures” will be announced on Saturday, April 26 at the Fiber Flurry Fiber Arts Festival.
Prospectus: Rooted: Buried Treasures, calling for work that speaks to handwork, digging into something to discover its value, creating something deeply rooted with a strong foundation, connected to the noble work of one’s hands and the “touch of the artist’s hands.”
Call: Seeking work that speaks to the following concepts: handwork, digging into something to discover its value, creation of something deeply rooted with a strong foundation and the tactile nature of working in fiber as an art medium. Other acceptable themes include veins, threads, precious metals and mining, hinting at things that lie beneath the surface and valuable assets (including secrets).
Focus: “For Arts Sake” – art pieces not rooted in function or useful goods, and Fine Art (non-Fiber mediums) that connect to fiber, agrarian themes or evoke a connection to the theme of the Call in either subject matter or philosophy.
001 For Arts Sake: Fine Art execution of Fiber or work rooted in aesthetic rather than usefulnes.
002 Fine Art: Sheep-or Wool-Related Visual Art (non-fiber)
Works that prioritize elevated or surprising execution of traditional techniques that are rooted in technical disciplines of our shared craft will receive priority by the curator and when judging for awards. All artists are encouraged to apply.
